MOTIVATION TO GET YOU GOING WHEN LIFE FEELS LIKE GRUMPY CAT LOOKS
“See, kinda is lethal. You know what kinda is? There is a lot of kinda people, you kinda want a career change, you kinda want to get straight A’s, you kinda want to get in shape. Simple math, no numbers to crunch. If you kinda want something, then you will kinda get the results you want. What is your dream? What ignites that spark? You can’t kinda want that, you got to want it with every part of your whole heart. Will you struggle? Yeah, you will struggle, no way around it. You will fall many times, but who’s counting? Just remember, there’s no such thing as a smooth mountain… Struggle and criticisms are prerequisites for greatness. That is the law of this universe and no one escapes it. Because pain is life but you can choose what type – either the pain on the road to success, or the pain of being haunted with regret.”
Prince Ea is poetic and profound in his motivational videos. Powerful and metaphorical, his words always fill me with that “get up and do sh!t” mentality. At times it’s dramatic but it puts things into perspective – can you believe how quickly this past month has gone? The past year? What steps have you taken towards your goal? I’m not saying this video is going to get you there instantly (seeing as I’ve watched it between 4-10 times to get the quotes right and I’m still sat in my bed), but applied to your life you’ll be going in the right direction.
“For what it’s worth: It’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start over.”
F. Scott helps remind me it’s not about being the best person in the whole world, walking around curing cancer and ending world hunger, it’s about being proud of the life you created… About being conscious and aware that you control the decisions you make, and having the courage to make the uncomfortable changes that will get you to where you want to be. Who hasn’t fallen off their path at some point? Eaten a whole pizza the 3rd day of their diet, skipped an assignment to binge watch House of Cards (or that’s just me?).. loosing focus isn’t failing unless you choose not to get back on course. Thanks, F. Scott Fitzgerald, for this Benjamin Button quote, and for writing the Great Gatsby, which lead to a screen play featuring Leonardo DiCaprio in a tux. *swoon*
“There’s nothing wrong with the traditional American Dream. There’s nothing wrong with this path. Many of you guys are going to go down this path and live very happy lives. The problem I have with it, is most people that live out the traditional American Dream do not choose to do so. No, they follow the path of least resistance… That’s what society teaches you to do.”
Sean Ogle shares his redefined concept of the American dream – describing his journey from corporate misery to self-made success and global presence. Watching this video in the autumn of 2012 is the first time in memory I had the concrete words to describe my real life goals and dreams: location independence. He emphasizes making conscious decisions in your life choices instead of following the path of least resistance. This is one of Sean’s first public speaking engagements (read: it’s kinda rocky) but the message is passionate and inspirational if you’ve got 15 minutes to spare.
